“He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.”

The word propitiation means “to be made righteous”.

1. Are you righteous on your own? What does God say about our righteousness in Isaiah 64:6?

2. According to John what makes you righteous?

3. When you think about this situation that your sins aren’t just taken away (expiation), but you are made righteous what goes on inside your heart?

   Take a few minutes this week and specifically ask God to open your eyes to the huge truth. Thank God for making you righteous!

1 John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

1. When you think about the word confess what comes to mind? Is that an accurate or inaccurate picture of what’s described in 1 John 1.9?

2. What do you think about the words “faithful and just”?

3. He takes away our sin because of what Jesus has done on our behalf. What does this do in your heart?

4. What do you need to confess? What do you need to say about your own sin? Confess it and have your sins forgiven!
