40 Days of Hope - Day 23

The 40 days before Easter is historically called Lent. During Lent many Christian denominations encourage their people to fast or give something up during these days. However, Lent isn’t about what you will give up of yourself, but about what God, in his grace, has given up for you.

Consider James 4:6–10

[6] But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” [7] Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. [8] Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. [9] Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. [10] Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. (ESV)

Prayer Focus:

ADORE God for His generosity towards you
CONFESS your dependence on other things other than the Lord
THANK God for giving you salvation that you don’t deserve
SUPPLICATE (Beg) God to help you see your sin the way He sees it
SILENTLY reflect on James 4.6-10
